Thanks to all the people who made this evening happen. James Hewgill whose brilliance transformed an average PA into a concert system, and lifted the room and the vibe along with it, capturing my live acoustic show for all time. Thanks to the musicians who came along and made my songs come alive with their talent, with no rehearsal either I might add - flying on the seats of our pants! Thankyou to all the people I owe money too, whose patience and belief that I will pay them back has enabled me to sink more money into yet another musical project. Thanks to Rosco from MGM for his support in releasing my records. Huge thanks to all the fans who support me, in particularly the 70 plus crew who rolled down to this gig to make it such a special evening. And well done to find out about it when all the promotion went by the wayside. Thanks to Tom Walker, who made the trek out to WA with me, put up with the terrible weather and endless driving and helped to create the space for this music to happen in. Thanks to Hazza for being the ultimate roadie. Thankyou to Johnny Wilson from Peppimenarti and David Lane from Bondi for their brilliant songs. All my love and thanks to my family, may this record be dedicated to the arrival of Jimmy Thompson and his wonderful mother Nardwyn. And as always endless love and thanks to the beautiful Linda Roberts, my source of inspiration again and again.

Cup A Tea is dedicated to my dear friend Howie Johnstone for many an afternoon or evening talking and smoking in bliss.

Tall Buildings
(lyrics © Carus Thompson)

Get to Melbourne jetlagged and tired
Didn’t sleep at all on the flight
Three little hours that I’ll never get back there’s a life I left behind
First thing I do is buy some papers for a smoke,
thought it would sound good in a song
Next thing I do is look up at tall buildings, what’s this city hold for me?

So wont you hear me play music
Wont you let me sing my songs tonight
Cause there’s a few things I’ve given up just to get here
There’s a few things I’ll never set right

Sometimes I think where will I be in five years?
Will I be older but things still the same
Or will I be doing what I’ve dreamt of since twelve
Coz writing songs is my game
And I pray that’s what I play music and the cruel things said ain’t right
Cause something can grow so shallow and selfish
If it only lives under stage lights

Dear Linda
(lyrics © Carus Thompson)

You have pulled you down here again, its not for real
I’m too low to see you’re only giving me what I need
Its only me and my foolish pride that make you cry for me
And I cant stand the way that I make you pay
For what is not wrong

Now you are gone and you are free to maybe dream of me
And to love yourself don’t think about anything else
Just see your own beauty
And Im a lowly, lonely jealous type that’s why I cried at you
But I really, really love you dearly, I clearly see

While you’re gone I wont stray I know you’ll be back here someday
And while we’re apart I’ll never regret and your beautiful ways
I’ll never forget

You have pulled me down here again so I play for you
I miss you so much I’m missed you touch im needing your loving beauty
But in our minds we touch all the time, your hand warm in mine
When we sleep at night our bodies set flight
And make love in the sky

Kurt Cobain
(lyrics © Carus Thompson)

Kurt Cobain, Kurt Cobain
Seems like you lived your life in pain
But you had a nice a nice smile
And you let people see it from time to time

Had a terrible dream last night, shook me deep and I woke with a fright
Two of my friends had gone the same way
Can’t tell you relief when I did wake

What goes wrong, what goes wrong
To make it all so difficult
And where are all the savings grace
Something to fall on, just a little space

Kurt Cobain, Kurt Cobain
Read a story about you today
And I had to come home and write this song
For the words moved me and I felt for you

Been There Before
(lyrics © Carus Thompson)

So you wrote him a song
Couldn’t say it to his face but you could sing along
But the radio wouldn’t play and he don’t take nothing in
Unless he hers it everyday

Baby I know what you’re talk about though
I been there before

So you made a movie, hired all the best actors
So he could see how you feel
But he just stared into space
Always preferred action movies to romances anyway

Now you’re feeling low down, can’t work it out
Baby I know what you’re talking about though
I been there before

Well I been that guy I guy
So stoned you couldn’t look me in the eye
And babe when I go, I stare into the space

Yangi
(words & music by Johnny Wilson)

Bushfires burning, burning peppimenarti
Old people used to walk around
The Eaglehawk is searching for food

Kara Deyenge De
Yangi Wyempulene
Peppimenarti

The sun is setting down, sea breeze going to blow
The Kookaburru sings sadness in the afternoon sun
Its alright my brother we can walk this sad home

My home is burning in flames

Born With A Broken
(lyrics © Carus Thompson)

If you were born with a broken heart
If your whole world had been torn apart
Don’t tell me you wouldn’t get into fights on trains
Don’t tell me everything would still be the same
And if you’re whole word was now somebody else’s world
To walk these streets you’ve had to pay a price
If you were born with a broken heart

If everyday was coloured by your skin
If history just never let you in
Don’t tell me you’d have grown up comfortably
Don’t tell me you’d understand the word ‘me’
And if you’re whole world was now somebody else’s world
To walk these streets you’ve had to pay a price
If everyday was coloured by your skin

Someday, someday I’ll have my world
Then I’ll know who I am
Somday, someday, people won’t turn away
To satisfy the fear they feel inside
If you were born with a broken heart

All For You
(lyrics © Carus Thompson)

Take me high or take me low
Anywhere you wanna go
Before the morning comes
Just drive this car all night
We can sleep away the day
Hide our bloodshot eyes
Ignoring what they say

Take me fast or take me slow
Anyspeed you wanna go
Cause I really do not care
I am spent inside
I am just a hole
Frightened by the ways
In which I was so cold

Need your voice on the line
Need that sad thing one more time
I’d give up all my friends for you

Floating With The Seasons
(lyrics © Carus Thompson)

If you open the door the smokes always sucked out
And the wind will keep the light going so it never goes out
Music will put your minds at ease
You can waste away the days like a soft autumn breeze
Floating with the Seasons yeah
Anwhere the wind blows

Summer come baby and summer it goes
Autumn takes so long when winters this cold
I just sit back here and watch tv
Fifteen pubs on Brunswick if you feel like a drink

It’s the way you walk
It’s the way you talk
It’s the way you smile
It’s that look in your girl
Oh girl well I need you know

Oh pretty babe anywhere the wind blows

Somedays I walk, somedays I crawl
Someday I work, somedays I stall
If the wind falls to hard it’ll wash me away
But there was nothing I could do to make you stay

Walk Before You Crawl
(lyrics © Carus Thompson)

I flew so high nearly touched the sky, I didn’t keep my feet on the ground
Like I was up to the nines on something so fine and I was never ever gonna come down
But looking back now, knowing what I know now, I see where I made the mistakes
When you’re doing something for the first time yeah
You just get carried away

We walked before we crawled
We started but we stalled

I look up the sky, the night time stars, I watch one falling to earth
It burns so bright, alive and alight, but fades as it falls to the ground
And that’s you and I, we had our time, but the best things only last for a while
Just like that star, we lit up the sky
But now we’ve burned down to the ground

Made so many mistakes
I made so many mistakes
